Harvey House
Harvey House isn’t technically a traditional Wisconsin Supper Club, instead it’s a fine dining take on what a traditional Wisconsin Supper Club celebrates. The menu features traditional Midwest Cuisine with its own modern twist. Instead of a traditional Deep Fried Fish Fry they have a Superior Whitefish with Pumpernickel, Savoy Cabbage and Horseradish Sabayon. Instead of a simple Relish Tray, they have a Relish Tray with Seasonal Vegetables, Applewood Smoked Trout Dip, Deviled Eggs, Homemade Pickles and Whipped Ranch.
The atmosphere inside the restaurant is also an absolute treat! Hidden behind Madison’s Historic Train Depot you can eat even eat your meal in a renovated train car. Or if you’re looking for something a little more casual we love to eat our meal at the prohibition era bar. Plan on dropping some money when you eat here, but it is WELL WORTH IT. If you love Supper Clubs this is an amazing experience that you have to try at least once in your lifetime!
Hob Knob Supper Club
Hob Knob Supper Club is by FAR one of the most scenic and picturesque Supper Clubs we’ve ever been to. The restaurant is nestled on the shores of Lake Michigan so almost every table has expensive views of the lake. PLUS, they’ve got a great patio to have drinks at before you eat dinner. The decor inside is also SUPER retro and has a great 1950’s vibe. We started the meal with Mussels cooked in White Wine, Garlic & Lemon. I can’t NOT start my meal at a Supper Club without ordering Baked French Onion Soup For dinner, I got the Crab Cakes with Remoulade Sauce and Scalloped Potatoes. Mike got the Duck with Sage Dressing and Orange Sauce.
The Del-Bar
This is definitely one of the fancier Supper Clubs we like to eat at! The restaurant’s architecture and design is all Frank Loyld Wright inspired and it definitely gives you a great Mad Men vibe while eating there. Plus the food is spectacular! We started the meal with Sassy Cow Fried Cheese Curds with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce, as well as some Raw Oysters. One of my favorite parts about Supper Clubs is their Wedge Salads and Baked French Onion Soup. These are staples you have to try! For dinner, Mike got the Swiss FiIlet with Bone Marrow Butter. I got the Jumbo Sea Scallops with Roasted Mushrooms, Corn & Bacon. For dessert, we went HAM and got Key Lime Pie with Strawberry Sauce, a Mint Grasshopper and a Pink Squirrel. If you’re new to Supper Clubs- Grasshoppers and Pink Squirrels are ice cream drinks that usually include some type of dessert liqueur.
Toby’s Supper Club
This is probably my VERY FAVORITE Supper Club of all time and that’s because they give you free homemade cinnamon rolls as an appetizer with every meal! (This is only during the week and not on weekends.) AND you also get a relish tray that includes raw veggies & pickles with every meal. I got the Fried BlueGill Fish Fry with a Loaded Baked Potato. Mike got Frog Legs and Garlic Pesto Shrimp. He also got a Brandy Old Fashioned.
Maple Tree Supper Club
I’ve been coming to Maple Tree Supper Club since I was a kid and one of the best parts about it is the Soup & Salad Bar that’s included with every meal as well as their Wednesday Night Buffet! Their Wednesday Night Buffet takes all the best parts of a traditional Wisconsin Supper Club and rolls them into one awesome spot to try a little bit of everything. Mike got the Fried Walleye with Cheesy Onion Hasbrowns. I got the Broasted Chicken with Corn, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy. This is one of the BEST Broasted Chickens I’ve ever had! Super crispy fried skin on the outside and juicy chicken inside.
Jones’ Black Angus
Jone’s Black Angus Supper Club is tucked just a hop skip and jump away from the banks of the Mississippi River in Western Wisconsin. Even if you don’t live in the area it’s worth a beautiful scenic drive through rural Wisconsin to visit this Supper Club. The unassuming exterior gives way to a cozy dark wood paneled Wisconsin Supper Club inside.
The food here was delicious, but the REAL star of the show was the huge Soup & Salad Bar that was included with the meal. Soup and Salad Bars are pretty standard at Supper Clubs, but this one was far larger than most and it even had a separate large cheeseboard where you could select different types of Wisconsin Cheese to enjoy.
Mike got the Steak Oscar topped with Crab & Bernaise Sauce. I got the Fried Bluegill Fish Fry with a Loaded Baked Potato. Both were excellent and Mike said that his steak was one of the best he’d ever had!
Wissota High Shores Supper Club
There’s nothing more Midwesty than a Supper Club nestled right on the shores of a lake. Wissota High Shores Supper Club is located right on the bank of Lake Wissota which means almost every seat in the dining room has a great view of the water. They also have a huge outdoor deck and bar where you can enjoy a drink before your meal. We visited in the Fall so it was getting a bit chilly but we didn’t let that stop us from having a drink outside.
The Soup and Salad bar here is one of the best in the state and included a really good Clam Chowder. Another hidden gem on the menu is their unique take on a class Wisconsin Cheese Curd. Instead of using the typical fresh squeaky cheeseacurds they used bread cheese which really stood out! We also ordered the Cheese Fondue as an appetizers which reminded me of a mix between class Swiss fondue and a more American Spinach & Artichoke Dip. Definitely delicious! Since we went on a Friday night, I got the Leinenkugels Beer Battered Fish Fry which was excellent. (Plus the Leinenkugel’s Factory is just 10 minutes down the road so you know the beer they’re using is definitely fresh!)
Ishnala Supper Club
Ishnala is the only Supper Club in Wisconsin that’s located smack dab in the center of a State Park, right on the shores of Mirror Lake. What this means is that the entire property has sweeping views of the lake as well as direct access to the hiking and walking paths in Mirror Lake State Park. The wait for a table here is typically pretty long, but there’s a ton of state park to explore while you sip your Old Fashioned. Or if you’re looking for something a little more low key you can just enjoy your drink sitting by the water on their private beach or at one of their 3 bars.
For an appetizer we always get the Prime Rib Spears which are stuffed with 4 Cheeses and Asparagus. They come with a Tangy Mustard Sauce as well as a Bernaise Sauce. For dinner Mike always gets their Steak Filet Special that comes topped with a Sun Dried Tomato-Pistachio Peso, Goat Cheese and a Port Wine Reduction. I also always get the classic Baked French Onion Soup and the Wedge Salad. The Wedge Salad is topped with Blue Cheese, Bacon and Tomatoes.
House of Embers Restaurant
House of Embers is a classic Wisconsin Supper Club with a surprise twist. Mike and I both agreed that their award winning ribs were some of the best ribs we’ve ever had! Smoked Ribs aren’t usually something I think of as a Supper Club staple so it was a fun surprise to discover! I started the meal with my go-to Wedge Salad. This one was topped with Spiced Pecans, Bacon, Blue Cheese & Tomatoes. For dinner, I got the Pan Seared Walleye with Maple Compound Butter and Toasted Pecans. Mike got the award winning Hickory Smoked Ribs with a Twice Baked Potato. These ribs were spectacular and if you go, definitely order them! To finish off the meal we split a Grand Marnier Creme Brulee.
Club 23
Club 23 is a classic Wisconsin Supper Club smack dab in the middle of nowhere. And I really don’t feel like I’m exaggerating when I say that- It’s literally located right in the middle of a corn field! Don’t let the location or simple exterior fool you. The food here is great! We started our meal with the Creamy Garlic and Mushroom Crostini.
This was the absolute favorite part of my meal! It’s super unique and delicious and definitely has some more upscale flavors. For dinner, Mike got the Prime Rib and Scallops. The scallops were just okay, but the Prime Rib was great!
Definitely be prepared for a GIANT piece of meat. I got a classic Perch Fish Fry which came with a side of Homemade Cottage Fries and this amazing homemade Dill Dip!
Rupp’s Supper Club
Rupp’s Supper Club is located in the TINY town of Cleveland, WI and is an absolute hidden gem. If you’re staying at the American Club in Kohler, don’t hesitate to make the short drive over to Rupp’s. The Salad Bar is outstanding for such a small restaurant and the fish fry was delicious! Mike had the Lamb Shanks and really enjoyed their tender rich flavor. This place is packed with locals and you can tell that a lot of local pride goes into running such a great restaurant.
Buckatabon Tavern & Supper Club
Buckatabon is definitely a more modern day Supper Club so a lot of the menu had a really fun spin on more traditional Supper Club food! The Smug Clam Bloody Mary has Spicy Horseradish infused vodka, clamato mix, served with an onion, mushroom, and a dill pickle. The Prime Rib Nachos are served with triple cheese sauce, fontina and cheddar cheeses, poblano corn relish, hot pepper salsa, horseradish-smoked sour cream, charred scallions. Mike got the Blackened Lake Perch with eggs, potato pancakes, applesauce & rye toast.
